🎥 Film Scene I Love 🎥
I wanted to throw in something a bit different this week.
I re watched one of my favourite films “About Time” at the weekend and this is one of my favourite scenes of all time. The premise of the film is that Tim the main character discovers that all the men in his family can travel back in time. The film depicts the trials and tribulations that this causes as he gets older.
This scene breaks down what happens when Tim uses his Dads “secret formula” for happiness.

🤖 eCommerce News:
“Facebook reported guidance of $28 billion to 30 billion in revenue for the second quarter of 2022. If the company’s revenue hits the bottom of that guidance, it will represent its first year-over-year drop. First-quarter sales rose just 7% from a year earlier, the slowest growth on record.”
👀 Mavrck raises $135M, buys Linkin.bio maker Later in creator and influencer marketing consolidation
“Mavrck, which operates a platform for brands and media companies to source and engage with influencers for marketing campaigns, has raised another $135 million, and with some of that it’s scooping up Later, a startup that first made its name with a social media scheduling tool for Instagram (its original name was Latergramme), but has since diversified into other social platforms like Pinterest, TikTok and LinkedIn, a Linkin.bio service, and analytics for the creator to track engagement and other metrics.”
“LottieFiles is now used by animation and motion designers at 150,000 companies, including Google, TikTok, Disney, Uber, Airbnb and Netflix. The startup announced today that it has raised $37 million in Series B funding led by Square Peg Capital, with participation from XYZ Venture Capital, GreatPoint Ventures and returning investors 500 Startups and Microsoft Venture Fund, M12.”
“Spotify announced today it will become the first music streaming brand to have an official presence within Roblox, with the launch of “Spotify Island,” a place where artists and fans will gather to play interactive quests, unlock exclusive content and buy artist merchandise.”
“Instant grocery startup Zepto has raised $200 million in a new financing round as it looks to expand its 10-minute delivery service to more cities in India and grow its network of dark stores. Existing backer Y Combinator Continuity led Zepto’s Series D round, valuing the Mumbai-headquartered startup at about $900 million, up from $570 million in its December Series C round and $225 million in a round unveiled in late October.”
“According to its findings, digital video advertising grew 21% in 2021 and is expected to grow another 26% in 2022 to reach $49.2 billion. Leading this growth is the Connected TV ad market — an indication of the sizable shift away from traditional TV viewing and toward streaming video. The “2021 Video Ad Spend and 2022 Outlook” report says Connected TV ad spend grew 57% in 2021 to $15.2 billion and will grow another 39% in 2022 to $21.2 billion. And between 2020 and 2022, Connected TV ad spend is projected to more than double, growing 118%.”
“With Snap’s 3D Asset Manager, businesses can create 3D models for their products featured on the app. Brands can also use the app’s Camera Kit for AR Shopping to integrate Snapchat’s augmented reality try-on tools within their own applications. The app’s AR Image Processing technology lets brands use existing product photography to generate augmented reality assets for Snapchat AR try-on Lens experiences. Brands can also use Snap’s AR Shopping Templates to import their product catalog and create AR shopping catalog Lenses. Meanwhile, users can try on styles virtually with the Dress Up tool, which lets Snapchatters browse and share products within the app.”
“Flyp, a startup founded by serial entrepreneurs James Kawas and Dani Arnaout, is looking to give machine learning-powered tools to these stay-at-home sellers. The startup’s core, revenue-generating product is an algorithmic matching platform that pairs a regular consumer, or a liquidation company, or a donation center, with a power reseller to offload their inventory of used goods. The user lists their items on Flyp’s app and is matched with a reseller who typically sells that type of inventory. The two agree upon a commission split and Flyp takes a 5% cut and handles the logistics around transferring the inventory.”
“Leveraging technologies developed by Harvard SEAS (where co-founder Jochen Mueller did his postdoc), the company is working to produce a system that can perform the process quickly, inexpensively and at scale. Specifically, the company cites its use of a new printing technology (developed by the aforementioned Harvard team), which can print with hundreds of nozzles simultaneously, versus many of the existing technologies that only use one.”

🎶 Tik Tok Ad Of The Week
Chubbies Shorts X @FrankieLaPenna
(Chubbies is a mens “weekend brand”)
My favourite Tik Tok ad from this week is from the one and only Frankie LaPenna.
A media grad who has turned himself into a social media & worldwide sensation.
He rose to fame for two distinct content types:
Taking work zoom calls in the most inappropriate places possible
Gatecrashing live news broadcasts, nightclub queues & gyms with an oversized arse as “Jim Kardashian”
This weeks ad with Chubbies Shorts is Frankie presenting his Q3 projections during a Chubbies zoom meeting.
….Whilst riding a bike 😂 during which time his brakes fail dramatically.
Why is this a good ad?
Influencer x Brand Affinity ✅
Chubbies values & beliefs include…
We believe in Friday at 5pm
We believe in Weekends
We believe in the right your quads have to a life of freedom and sunshine
Take a look at Frankie’s & Chubbies profile (1.7million on Tik Tok)… & I think you will understand this more 😂
Catching an influencer whilst they are hot ✅
Frankie is on one big long hot streak. Recently it’s been viral video after viral video
Bold ✅
Chubbies content isn’t for the faint-hearted of marketers. They cross the lines that many brands wouldn’t dare
Relatable ✅
Everyone has either been on a zoom call whilst doing something they shouldn’t or thought about doing something they shouldn’t whilst on one. Frankie however takes it to the extreme!

📈 Trends Of The Week:
“FAANG Stocks Down…
Having dominated their markets over the last decade, making them popular picks for growth investors seeking lofty returns. But all 5 tech giants have been plagued by recent challenges:
Facebook lost ~500k daily users in Q4 2021, and suggested it could have its 1st YoY revenue drop next quarter
Apple recently warned it could lose $8B due to supply chain constraints this quarter
Amazon reported its 1st quarterly loss in 7 years Friday, resulting in the stock tumbling ~14%
Netflix announced it lost subscribers for the 1st time in over a decade, leading its stock to drop 35% the next day, and wiping $50B from its valuation
Google showed slower growth than last year and missed revenue projections for Q1, thanks in part to a weak quarter for YouTube”

✍️ Poem Of The Week
Time
Tick tock...tick tock...Life is counting down on your internal clock.Memories that feel as if they occurred yesterdayturn to flashes of moments that seem to fade away.People you once knewwalk by without a clue. The times you once sharedexist as if you were never there.Years fly...friends die...and you never know when you'll say your last goodbye.Oh, how I wish I could turn back time, spend it with loved ones and cherish what once was mine.Or to go back even more, being a kid in a candy store. How I miss the way I used to feelon Christmas day when Santa was real. But back to reality...back to today, family is scarce and memories continue to fade away.Tick tock...tick tock...How I wish I could control this clock.
