šŸ¤– eCommerce news:

šŸ‰ Steven Bartlett defends Social Chainā€™s value after sale to rival for Ā£7.7m The agency that helped propel Dragons' Den and Diary of a CMO podcast star into the limelight is sold, prompting its superstar entrepreneur founder to fend off online criticism over its sale price.

šŸ’¬ ChatGPT is about to get even better and Microsoft's Bing could win big Microsoftā€™s second-place search engine Bing is poised to incorporate a faster and richer version of ChatGPT, known as GPT-4, into its product in the coming weeks, marking rapid progress in the booming field of generative AI and a long-awaited challenge to Googleā€™s dominance of search.

šŸ¦ Elon Musk says that Twitter will start sharing ad revenue with creators ā€˜todayā€™ "Twitter was slow to warm up to the creator economy, but the mostly text-based social app eventually got on board. The company introduced a handful of features in recent years to help content creators earn money, including Super Follows, Ticketed Spaces and a special monetization dashboard. Twitterā€™s creator features emphasize connecting creators and their followers directly with monthly paid subscriptions and ticketing, but Musk is apparently interested in adding an advertising revenue share into the mix."

Highlighting the plastic industryā€™s infamous track record on recycling, London-based Recycleye says it raised $17 million in new funding led by ā€œdeep techā€ investor DCVC.

The startup claims its recycling-picking robots can identify materials ā€œat an unrivaled 60 frames per secondā€ and sort them more accurately than humans can. Ultimately, the startup says its tech cuts the ā€œcost of sorting materials.ā€ TechCrunch has reached out to the company for information on its projected cost savings.

šŸŒ± Cannabis wholesale platform LeafLink raises $100 million Why it matters: The deal's structure reflects growing challenges in the cannabis market, in part due to raw material price increases. It's a convertible note capped at a $500 million valuation, down from an $800 million valuation in 2021. LeafLink also restructured its C-suite. Co-founder and CEO Ryan G. Smith gets kicked upstairs to executive chairman, and is succeeded by former WeWork co-CEO Artie Minson (who joined last year as president). Fellow co-founder and CTO Zach Silverman becomes a senior advisor, with the role going to Karan Gupta (ex-Shift Technology). Last year the company implemented two rounds of layoffs, and says proceeds from the new investment will be used to develop and expand services beyond marketplace, where it claims a 50% market share.

"For another year in a row, TikTok has found itself as the social app kids and teens are spending the most time using throughout the day, even outpacing YouTube. According to an ongoing annual review of kidsā€™ and teensā€™ app usage and behavior globally, the younger demographic ā€” minors ranging in ages from 4 through 18 ā€” began to watch more TikTok than YouTube on an average daily basis starting in June 2020, and TikTokā€™s numbers have continued to grow ever since.

In June 2020, TikTok overtook YouTube for the first time, with kids watching an average of 82 minutes per day on TikTok versus an average of 75 minutes per day on YouTube, according to new data from parental control software maker Qustodio.

This past year, the gulf between the two widened, it said, as kids in 2022 saw their average daily use of TikTok climb to a whopping 107 minutes, or 60% longer than the time they spent watching video content on YouTube (67 minutes)."

"It appears the NFT market is slowly getting back on its feet. Trading volumes rose for two months straight, with January scoring the highest volumes since June last year, according to the Dapp Industry Report: January 2023.

The growth in January marked a stark difference from the trend of the past few months ā€” October saw trading volumes dip to a low of $662 million ā€” but in November, the market halted the downward trend to stay at $662 million, per the report.

Volumes then recovered in December, rising slightly to $683 million, and increasing 38.5% from that number to $946 million in January."

šŸ™‰ Stand out creator:

This week I wanted to shout out singer Dean Lewis.

He broke into the ranks following a hit song which depicts what it feels like to realise youā€™ve been cheated on.

ā€œBe alrightā€ has over 1.4 BILLION streamsā€¦

Why do I want to shout him out?

He truly cares about his audience, his art and brings them on the journey with him.

He realises his music is bigger than him.

That his art is a vessel for people experiencing emotions and itā€™s bloody amazing to see.

Every marketer could learn a thing or two from following him

Humans are immensely emotional creatures and this dictates so much of what we attribute value too.

Dean wrote a song called called

How do I say goodbyeā€¦

Itā€™s a song about saying goodbye to his father whilst he is still alive due to getting diagnosed with cancer.

On his recent tour he invited his dad on stage to play guitar for him.

His dad goes onto tell him it was the best moment of his life.

Someone cutting onions in here?

Takeaways:

  • Bring your audience along with you for the ride

  • Don't be afraid to be vulnerable and emotional

  • Be a vessel for people experiencing beautiful moments in life

  • Create moments of magic they'll last longer than any advert
